The First-Timer Mom's Guide to Babes in the Dirt: What to Expect When You Come Alone

So, you're thinking about coming to Babes in the Dirt.

You've looked at the photos. You've watched the videos. You've imagined yourself out there riding, laughing around a campfire, and spending a weekend surrounded by women who share your love of adventure.

And then the questions start.

What if I don't know anyone?

How am I going to camp?

How do I get my bike there?

Am I experienced enough?

Can I really justify taking a weekend away from my family?

If you're a mom asking yourself these questions, you're not alone. In fact, you're exactly like hundreds of women who attend Babes in the Dirt for the very first time each year.

The good news? You're about to discover that you don't have to have everything figured out before you arrive.

First Things First: You Don't Need to Know Anyone

This is probably the biggest fear we hear from first-timers. Many women assume everyone else is arriving with a group of friends, a riding crew, or years of experience.

The reality is quite different.

Every year, hundreds of attendees arrive solo. Some have never attended a motorcycle event before. Others are returning to riding after years away. Many are moms who simply decided it was finally time to do something for themselves.

By the end of the weekend, most are exchanging phone numbers, planning rides together, and already talking about next year's event.

The beauty of Babes in the Dirt is that everyone starts with something in common: a willingness to show up.

Don't Stress About Camping

If you're not an experienced camper, take a deep breath. You do not need a perfectly curated campsite or every piece of outdoor gear on the market.

You need a place to sleep, a few essentials, and a willingness to embrace the adventure.

Worried About Your Bike? We've Seen It All

Transporting a dirt bike for the first time can feel overwhelming.

Trailers. Tie-downs. Loading ramps. Travel logistics.

It can seem like everyone else knows exactly what they're doing.

Trust us—they didn't always.

Many riders attending their first Babes in the Dirt event are figuring it out for the first time, too.

Our community is incredibly supportive, and you'll find riders sharing transportation tips, travel plans, and advice long before the event begins if you get involved :)

You don't need to be an expert. You just need to start.

You Don't Need to Be Fast

One of the biggest misconceptions about dirt bike events is that everyone attending is an advanced rider.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Babes in the Dirt welcomes riders across a wide range of skill levels. Many participants are beginners or newer riders who are still building confidence.

The goal isn't to be the fastest rider.

The goal is to learn, improve, and have fun.

Nobody is judging your pace. Everyone remembers being new.

Taking Time for Yourself Isn't Selfish

For many moms, this is the hardest part. Taking a weekend away from young children can feel uncomfortable.

There are lunches to pack, schedules to manage, activities to coordinate, and countless responsibilities waiting at home, trust me, I know (mom of a 6 year old over here!).

But here's something we've learned after more than a decade of hosting events:

When women invest in themselves, everyone benefits.

A weekend of riding, learning, laughing, and reconnecting with yourself has a way of filling a cup that may have been running low for a long time.

You return home energized, inspired, and reminded of who you are beyond your daily responsibilities.

What You'll Actually Find

You'll find women cheering each other through obstacles.

You'll find strangers helping each other set up camp.

You'll find coaches who genuinely want you to succeed.

You'll find campfire conversations that last long into the evening.

You'll find women from every background and every stage of life sharing one incredible weekend together.

Most importantly, you'll find a community that remembers exactly what it felt like to be new.

Our Promise to First-Timers

We know showing up can feel intimidating.

We know there are logistics to figure out.

We know you may be nervous.

But we also know what happens when someone decides to come anyway.

Confidence grows.

Friendships form.

Skills improve.

Because somewhere between the first ride, the first laugh, and the last campfire, something shifts. You realize you belonged here all along.

So if you're a mom sitting on the fence, wondering whether you should sign up, consider this your invitation.

Come as you are.

Come with questions.

Come without knowing anyone.

Come nervous.

We'll help with the rest.

And chances are, by the end of the weekend, you'll be helping the next first-timer feel welcome too.
