FAQ's Rules + Regs for Babes in the Dirt 2024
We can't wait to welcome you soon! This weekend, we hope you make new friends, learn new skills, and enjoy a stress free environment with other off-road enthusiast. There will be women at this event who have different backgrounds, beliefs, who don't look or talk like you and that's one of the many magical things about this gathering. We ask each person to be kind and considerate, welcoming and respectful <3
Now, let's brush up on the FAQ and those deets you may have forgotten since purchasing tickets.
FAQs
WHOA! Tell me more about the riding area, Johnson Valley OHV
Buckle up sister! Johnson Valley OHV is 96,000 acres of incredible riding for beginners, intermediates, and advanced riders. From Laser Town, there is thousands of miles of trail right from Laser Town that range from beginner, intermediate, to hard enduro. Since its pretty open, it's easier to navigate than one might think. We suggest downloading an app that shows off-road riding such as Gaia GPS, ONxOff Road, UTV Trails etc. and checking out the area before you via those mapping platforms before you come and have a few trails in mind & already downloaded. The terrain can range from amazing 2 track with hard packed dirt, sand washes to get your swerve on, rock sections, hill climbs...basically everything but a MX track is out there.
What is Laser Town?
Laser Town is a world famous private 40 acre off-road compound owned by Cody Waggoner in the heart of some of California's best riding. It's wild & kind of apocalyptic with its metal sculptures and build outs. Because this event is in Nov, we hope to hit the average temp during this time with the highs of 68 and low ranging in the 40's. It does not have an exact address but is easy to find and we will ensure proper signage guides you in. It's impossible to miss :)
GPS Coordinates:
34.39029 N
116.51393 W
From the 247, take Boone RD to Pistachio RD and you'll see it!
I rather camp / stay off site with my friends, family etc. What's the deal? We are so stoked that this location allows people to camp elsewhere on BLM with whoever they want (family, kids, dogs, other babes, dudes etc.) if they do not want to stay within the venue and just come for the fun. We have 0 suggestions on where to park or camp outside of Laser Town if you choose this route. Babes Ride Out is only in charge of and will assist within the venue itself so please note this when deciding what to do. We have free Laser town dirt bike parking for gals who want to do this, but will need an admission ticket to enter the venue.
What's this BLM Fee? Ah yes, new event / new venue / new permits and working with public lands = a ton of paper work (I am talking 85 pages of paperwork alone to get this permitted). In that permit, it requires $14 ($7 per day) fee per transaction to be collected and given to the BLM for use of the 96,000 acres. This fee helps maintain, protect, monitor, and keep these lands open for future generations to come. We keep 0% of this so know you contributed to Johnson Valley OHV and be proud of that.
What amenities will be on site?
- Food truck with food for purchase on site
- Extra porto potties
- Ultimate hang zones
- Fire pits for bonfires in a central location. These are for social gathering, not cooking. Please use food truck
- Nightly entertainment
- Games
- Dance Party night
- Karaoke night
- Raffle
- Security patrolling 24 hours
- Medic station 24/7
- Access to thousands of miles of trails
- Access to demos, classes, and clinics (some may require an additional purchase for training)
Will I have fun if I am new to this, never camped, not the "outdoors" type? If you are new to the sport: WE THINK YOU WILL HAVE A BLAST! There are classes for true beginners to sign up for that will help you learn the basics & no experience is necessary. If not in a class, its awesome to meet other ladies who off-road and connect however, this is very much a riding event with socializing being part of the fun but there won't be any "entertainment" until the night time. Please note this event hosts 400+ riders so there are no "tour guides" at this event. If you have an adventurous spirit and can read a BLM map, you'll have a blast no matter what level of rider you are. If a newer rider, we suggest honing in your skills by taking a class. You won't get bored if you are there to build skill, speed, and /or confidence for sure! Not the outdoors type? Riding without trail support or a dedicated guides and sweeps worries you? Uncomfortable asking for help? You will most likely be bummed out / not find this event worth your time. This is dirt, no showers, we can't control the weather and want to be 100% upfront with expectations vs reality. We are ALWAYS happy to answer any questions not outlined in this FAQ. Hit up Ashmore@babesrideout.com , she'd be thrilled to assist!
Should I buy a ticket if I am considered high risk / have health concerns / need power? Your health and wellness are our #1 concerns and this event is a tag rugged, dusty, cold, maybe hot? If you can't sleep face down in the dirt....maybe re think this.
Is there any training on site? YES! Megs Braap will be on site this year for all day clinics + Brian G and Dirtastic will be returning for some EPIC training for additional costs + Husqvarna will be having their FREE new to moto sessions as well + guided demos (first come dirt served).
- Brian Garrahan Training Classes with Full Gear & Bike
- Brian Garrahan Training Classes Bring Your Own Gear + Own Bike
- Meg Braaps Enduro 1.0 Clinic Bring Your Own Gear + Own Bike
- Dirtastic Lessons at Babes in the Dirt
I am new, novice, intermediate, pro at dirt. What is there for me at Babes in the Dirt? A ton! We will be posting all the best routes & features leading up to the event! Good news is ALL the trails are open out there and have a ton of range / not hard to navigate (in our opinion).
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? Does my ID need to match my ticket? Can I purchase tickets for my group/ how does that work? All our events are 18+ and geared towards the ladies. IDs will be checked before you enter the site so make sure it matches the name you register with. If you forgot your ID or "lost it" or the name on your ID does not mate the admissions ticket / or parking, you won't be able to enter. We do NOT suggest buying tickets for your friends. It always creates havoc for those who do :) However, if you are purchasing multiple tickets for your group, please add their full names and emails or they won't get any of the information nor will they be able to get their tickets without you being present to collect them. We are not responsible for relaying info to them if you do not add their info at point of purchase. Everyone MUST be pre registered to attend. No on site sales.
Is there any day parking for motorcycles / dirt bikes that want to come and go but not stay overnight on site? YES and it's FREE! If you are not staying the night within Laser Town and want to ride your dirt bike in each day, not problem! Make sure you have an admission ticket and we will have day use moto parking set up. If you are driving a car out, you will need to purchase the regular parking pass in addition to an admission ticket even if you are coming for a few hours etc.
My rig is over 60ft, what do I do? No problem, but you must let us know by emailing ashmore@babesrideout.com so you don't arrive and we are scratching our asses figuring out where to put you mansion on wheels. But for real, I want a tour of that bad boi and can't wait to see it!
ADA Info? We are more than happy to assist you, please email ashmore@babesrideout.com prior to the event. She is here to help to ensure we get you into a spot within the event space / close to portos.
What's the weather like? It averages high 60s in the day , low 40 at night in Nov. Please know we cannot control the weather so we can't be responsible for it.
What's the last day to buy a ticket, parking, or transfer my spot? Nov 10th 12PM pacific (if any spots are left). No sales @ gate for any admission or parking.
I have a RV, rig with generator, etc. What are the hours I can run them? Generators can run from 8AM-10PM.
Do we get locked in at night? Can we come and go? What if I am staying in a hotel or out on the BLM areas not within camp? Gates open for the event at 11AM Friday close each night at 11PM sharp to all attendees, vendors, & sponsors and re-open at 8AM Saturday and Sunday. You'd need to stay in a hotel or somewhere on BLM land if arriving after 11PM as security will turn you away at gates if you try and enter the event space or lower lot. During event hours, you are more than welcome to come and go.
Can I have my birthday party, bachelorette, divorce party, etc. at Babes in the Dirt? No girl... this hasn't changed, I want to hear you scream it... "Take that crap to Chili's by the airport!!" This is a RIDING EVENT. As much as we love to party, this is not the place to get loose, ride intoxicated (drugs or heavy alcohol), steal, make a scene, or be disrespectful to us, our staff, the park, and other attendees. Our staff has been instructed to call the authorities to remove you and your entire party on the spot if you can't conduct yourself appropriately. Security measures have been taken to capture any "shenanigans" & license plates, so please be aware you ARE being filmed and no one is getting a hall pass for being an idiot.
Can my husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, son, BFF, un-ticketed friend come in and set up my stuff then leave? Can I order an RV for drop off / have a RV dropped off or picked up by a 3rd party? Nope. Due to insurance and security no one is allowed in through the gates without being registered guest. If you are not willing to learn how to set up your rig on your own, then leave it behind and enjoy tent camping or set up your car for sleeping. There is tons of BLM area for you to camp on outside of the event but you would be 100% responsible for figuring out where that is via BLM maps etc. We have 0 suggestions here and do not know property lines <3
Our apologies for redundant & heavy handed with these bullets. We want to ensure everyone is understanding of how these events are ran to ensure everyone has a great time :) If you need any additional clarification on the below, please reach out. We are ALWAYS here to help!
- No pets!!!! We have to turn away people every single year over this. If you have a service animal, that is ok. A gal got bit one year and that's that....sorry puppers!
- No Trailer or RV drop offs whatsoever. You need to drive your own rig in. If someone shows up to drop off your rig, they will be turned away (sorry!) Tons of BLM out there to figure out on your own, we are not in charge of anything outside of Laser Town nor do we have any suggestions on where to camp if not inside the venue.
- 1 vehicle or rig per camp spot, no exceptions.
- 18+ and over only
- HELMETS ON anytime a bike is in motion.
- No drinking and riding. Our 24/ hr. security will escort anyone who appears to be riding intoxicated off the property in a squad car. Hit the siren party girl! You are going to the drunk-o tank at the finest holding center in Palm Springs <3
- No glass containers
- No ripping through camp on your bikes. Keep speeds low at all times when in camp as there are a lot of people that may not looking in all directions for ya.
- Do not sneak in un-ticketed guests. We will find out…we always do.
- No touching or going through any sponsors setup, sitting on the demo bikes, etc. after activation are shut down.
- No burn outs or hot doggin’, it never looks as cool as you think it does anyways :)
- Being a jerk to any staff, sponsors, or other attendees. If we ask you to "knock it off" ... knock it off. Although this is very very rare, we are not taking any shitty attitudes from anyone moving forward & we prefer to be upfront with our mental capacity for any bullshit here #overit
- We love trash! Trash must be properly disposed of in dumpsters. We have rented a giant roll off for you so no need to take smelly bags home (YEW!)
- Wristbands must be worn at all times. Do not take off until you leave for good as our staff will be checking for bands all weekend. Make sure to hold up your wrist and show your band each time you enter the site.
- Parking decals must stay visible in rear view / placed in review before leaving the registration check point & bike bands on handlebars.
- No Eazy Ups can be set up for safety reasons (It can be far too windy!). We have seen far too many fly across and hit other people and cars.
- NO FIRES or burning of any kind at the camping spaces. No charcoal grills or woof. Only small propane camp stoves & propane fire pits are ok.
- No one is permitted to sell or handout anything on site (no stickers, fliers, business cards etc.) Let's keep it chill and respect the on site sponsors and partners who contributed this event.
If you are going to struggle or challenge the rules and refs, there are other events to go to but this ain't it.
Can I sponsor this event? Take photos for my company / another business? We'd LOVE to hear more! Please contact babesrideout@gmail.com as this is a private event and all on sponsorships must be pre-approved 30 days before event due to permits.
Can we bring our own fire pit, BBQ? California is extremely flammable so no fires (wood or charcoal). Reminder that small camp stoves & propane fire rings are ok!
Is there cell service / wifi? No wifi, cell phone service is hit or miss.
Don’t have a dirt bike but want to learn! What do I do? He highly suggest taking a Garahhan class that comes with bike + gear mentioned earlier in the FAQ (they are fantastic!) . As for renting, we hear Eagle Rider also rents dirt bikes for pickup and there might be a few others in the area that are worth googling. Babes in the Dirt does not provide rentals and we do not have any information about rentals besides what you can google yourself unfortunately.
I can't make it, how do I transfer my ticket and parking pass to another rider? No problem! Babes in the Dirt is not responsible for transferring your ticket but its super easy to do AND there are 2 different ways.
1) Way #1: for your friends or fam / people you know: We have been able to add an "edit your own ticket" feature so no charges or transfer fees if you need to do so! YEW! Simple log into your account and change the name and email on tickets to whoever they are going to. We leave it to you to sort payment and communicate with that person. By doing this and not adding an official transfer or transfer fee, we have lost the ability to assist you in safe transactions so make sure you aren't scammed and ensure they pay you before you put in their name. Please note, your name remains as the original buyer and that is not editable, only name on ticket(s) is editable.
2) Way #2 For strangers / people you do not know: If you rather safely transfer it and remove your name and CC info entirely, you can. Click HERE to start the transfer and please know a $10 processing fee will be deducted from the ticket. This ensures no scams or weirdness.
How do I connect with other attendees for this event to (1) carpool to save some cash (2) buy/sell tickets & parking passes that I need or can't use (3) say hello! Head over to the Babes in the Dirt Facebook page to connect with riders!
What sticker does my bike need? Does my bike need a spark arrestor? Red or green is ok for this date. YES you have to have a spark arrestor.
Can I bring my pet into the event? No animals can be in the group site unless they are service dogs. This is not a pet friendly environment + we had a girl get bit by a non service dog one year which ruined it for all.
How will I know when the Husqvarna lead follows on their demos, experiences, etc. are open for registration? They will be first come, first served so check out their booth when you arrive!
Can I get a refund? Tickets are non refundable but you can transfer to another rider for this specific event up until registration ends the week prior. Please sell at face value and use our Facebook page, Babes in the Dirt, to do so (its the easiest way for sure!). There is also an option for insurance from a 3rd party, make sure to read the fine print before you tack it on.
Are there medics on site? Our medic tent is 24/7. Please do not hesitate coming to them with any medical issues.
What should I bring into the event?
- Protective boots, helmet, goggles, and any motocross gear you own! You can also rent gear at Gorman Motorsports. Trust us, this is important because you will "eat it" at some point during the day. Fox will be on site with some extra gear but there won't be enough for everyone so plan accordingly.
- Sunscreen / face wipes / face mask and ear plus... survival toiletries that make you happy.
- WATER! Make sure to bring plenty of water as the site does not have drinking water other than bottles for sale @ food truck. One gallon per person per day is recommended.
- Camping gear (sleeping bag, sleeping pad, headlamp, tent etc.). It is SUPER dark!
- A few trash bags! Please clean up after yourselves. We must leave site spotless if we want to be welcomed back.
- Warm clothes, clothes for being hot as hades. The weather out there is pretty unpredictable
- Snacks! (always). There are no grills or structures for outdoor cooking on the property. Please use the food truck or bring your own small propane stove.
- Drinks (the fun kind to enjoy when the bikes are shut down for the night). Please know excessive drunkenness will not be tolerated and you will be banned from the event if you or your group acts a fool. Don't forget, no glass please <3
- Cash for the coffee drinks, food trucks, and Babes in the Dirt merch!
- Battery pack to charge phone. We do not have power available to attendees.
- Extra toilet paper (2 ply.... you won't regret this)
- Extra gas for your moto
What's up with Hungry Valley / Quail Canyon MX the future of that location due to the fires that burnt it almost entirely? GREAT question and frankly we do not know. As much as we wish to have a crystal ball that dictates the future, we are going with the flow, pivoting, and focused on keeping Babes in the Dirt's wheels in motion which takes up 100% of our time and energy to do. As much as we'd like to tell you when we'd be back at Hungry Valley or if we can add a different style event there in "___insert year / date___", we simply can't at this time. Hoping for the best and the park will let us know when its time for us to have another event there.
Act of Conduct Disclaimer: Babes Ride Out x Babes in the Dirt has the right to revoke any attendees’ tickets, are allowed to refuse service if attendees become aggressive, becomes drunk & disorderly, starts to harass (verbally or physically) any other attendee or staff (male staff or female attendee / staff etc.), acts disrespectful, demanding, and or unreasonable. This is a private event & this is in effect prior to event & during event. We have the right to ban any attendees from further events who violate human decency and or the rules that we as an event & park system + OHV have in place to keep the space clear of bullshit. We want all those attending and working to feel welcome, appreciated, and safe.
I am transgender, transitioning or non-binary, other, am I still welcome to come? 100% yes! “Ladies / Babes / Women focused” is the best we have found to make it clear who this event is focused on bringing together. We understand that gender is fluid and trust that the moto community can make the distinction as they have over our past 11 years hosting events. We do not discriminate against anyone, period.
Zero Tolerance: All Babes Ride Out events have a zero-tolerance policy for any aggression, harassment, threats, unreasonable behavior, hate speech or violence whatsoever. We have never had a problem with this at any of our events but we feel that it is important to reiterate that racism, homophobia, bigotry, aggressive or condescending behavior towards anyone and/or anything that resembles it is not welcome ever at any of our events and we have the right to refuse service.
